the American Nurses Association is proud to announce a completely ana code of ethics free updated Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements(nursing code of ethics printable version). This book is the definitive framework for ethical analysis and decision-making for RNs across all practice levels, roles and settings.
Revisions were made in response to the complexities of modern nursing, to simplify and more clearly articulate the content, to anticipate advances in health care, and to incorporate aids that would make it richer, more accessible, and easier to use.
The Code, consisting of nine provisions and the accompanying interpretive statements :
- Provides a succinct statement of the ethical values, obligations, and duties of every individual who enters the nursing profession.
- Serves as the profession’s nonnegotiable ethical standard.
- Expresses nursing’s own understanding of its commitment to society.
The Code is particularly useful to in today’s health care environment because it reiterates the fundamental values and commitments of the nurse (Provisions 1–3), identifies the boundaries of duty and loyalty (Provisions 4–6), and describes the duties of the nurse that extend beyond individual patient encounters (Provisions 7–9).
This revision retains interpretive statements for each provision that provide more specific guidance for practice. The statements are responsive to the contemporary context of nursing and recognize the larger scope of nursing’s concern in relation to health. It also includes another innovation: links to foundational and supplemental documents, which will be available later in 2015.
ANA’s Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements is the promise that nurses are doing their best to provide care for their patients and their communities and are supporting each other in the process so that all nurses can fulfill their ethical and professional obligations.
It is important tool that can be used now as leverage to a better future for nurses, patients and health care. This Code is a reflection of the proud ethical heritage of nursing, a guide for all nurses now and into the future.
Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2015)
The Association American of nurses (ANA, for its acronym in English), the largest organization of nurses in the United States, has adopted a code of ethics to guide professional nurses in their daily work.
This code was the result of years of discussion and rewrite and is a broad document that involves all aspects of nursing career.
In 1995, the Board of Directors of the ANA and the Congress on nursing practice called the need for a revision of the code of ethics, formerly called the code for nurses. In 1996, they created a project task to devise an acceptable code.
The code was sent to the House of delegates in 1998 for approval, which was then sent to the Board for further revisions. The new code was finally accepted in the year 2001.
Due to the cost of the printing of the code, is not distributed for free. You can see it online at a non-printable format or buy it directly from the ANA.
These versions include the provision of nine codes, as well as annotations and interpretations to aid in understanding.
Nursing ethics provisions begin at the level of patient and progress to a wider sphere of influence. 1-3 provisions specifically address nurse relationship with individual patients, including respect for their dignity and advocate for their care.
These provisions deal with education in nursing and nurse rights (and responsibilities) to improve the nursing profession and the environments of patients staying abreast with education and training, both for the individual nurse as for plants, to promote more effective and compassionate care.
These provisions deal with nursing from a more global perspective, urging the nurses as a group of professionals to join with other health professionals to give form to the public policy and improving well-being and health around the world.
